The game started well as the skipper won the toss and chose to bat. Myers opened with a stand in number 2, Herro, who was out very quickly to a very poor slog sweep; Spike had called the wicket before the bowler had even started his run up... But Moongrey and ben built a good partnership before Ben was bowled by the straight one off a wee kid. Then the standard Welford mini collapse seemed to start with Will, Bala, Praneet and Pradeep falling for less than 26 runs. Spike then came in and again steadied the ship with a cool half century. Shame sloth and Moongrey couldn't say the same (jug avoidance) getting 44 and 49 respectively. Nick and Myself both seeing the over out, so after 45 overs the Park ended on 225 for 8
Tea was superbly provided by an Spike, taking us back to the old days of the club with a wonderful selection of sandwiches and topped off with some scones (or scones – depending on where you are from) with Jam and Devonshire clotted cream.
After tea, The Park came out to field and was soon in the wickets when the magical bowling of Galbraith took 2 early wickets before the rain came down. After a 20 minute rain break, Galbraith and The Park picked up where they left off. Every bowl that was bowled from either end looked like it could be a wicket. Park soon had Hawley 39-5 with Galbraith picking up 4 of them and the skipper only 1. The skipper generously took himself off to let Pradeep bowl. Galbraith kept the pressure on and finally took his first Welford 5fer by claiming yet another Hawley wicket. Sloth realising he was missing out on wickets soon brought himself back on and soon picked up 2 more victims add to his mounting wicket collection. Galbraith then picked up his 6th and final wicket of the day before becoming knackered and letting Herro have a trundle, only for Herro to take the glory of getting the final wicket on his 4th ball.
This was a fine display by the mighty Park bowling out Hawley for 107 in 26.4 overs and winning by 118 runs.
Blue stripe was a very poor effort from the skipper. Picking on Galbraith, just because he took more wickets than him, but his reason he gave was for taking a caught and bowled off a no ball - Where's the justice skip?
Oh and I would like to give Welford’s little helper a warm welcome to the team. What a fine addition. - Will I have not seen any photos of our mascot yet, what has he been up to?
