Another Sunday... Another drop out from George Thornton, but no need to worry we had his younger sibling Henry in the team. So at 1.50 we have 7 players at the ground (again) and things weren’t helped by the skipper losing yet another toss, and being put in to the field. Cale and UP turn up just before we take to the field. Challow get off to a fine start 25-0 off 5 overs. After a Tactical master class from the skipper (score now 42-0 from 8 overs), he brings Herro on to bowl and positions himself exactly where the batsman decided to loft one up in the air. 1st wicket fell but that wasn’t the greatest of news as the number 3 batsman eventually starts to destroy everything it his path. As the Herrington’s bowled in tandem, Will keeps finding the edge of the younger batsman who was playing a fine innings, until he finally found the edge that flew straight to the skipper (who again positioned himself superbly) to snaffle an epic low diving catch. But as The Challow number 3 powered on, the drinks break came around with Challow on 125-2 with Rhino (the no3) as the called him on 51. So on come's Upendra and Rhino's eye's light up, Smash, Bang, Wallop the over soon finished with Challow being 24 runs better off. However the 23rd over sees Jurgo stump the no 4 and with Rhino now on 93 (yes only 4 overs after drinks) Herro, The hero he is, finally takes his wicket bowled off his last delivery for a significant score of 93. But 171-4 with 16 overs still left would suggest a very large score was about to be posted. Welford however started to bring themselves back in to the game with a flurry of wickets. This was until an older looking 12 year old decided to take a shine to Curley Cale and Skinny Dipin's bowling putting them around the park and pushing the score up to a tough but possibly gettable target of 232. After a fantastic tea and watching Prior get his ton against India, Galbraith and Brooks took to the wicket. After starting ok Galbraith soon fell for 5 after being caught at gully by Rhino after the Skipper middled a late cut straight in to his gut where it bounced off in to his hands. By the time The Skipper had finished having a shower and got a beer the reliable Thornton sibling had also been caught out by a loose shot. The Park didn’t make things any easier for themselves as Brooksie went 18 balls without scoring a run the tried to play the big drive only to be caught at mid off. This brought young “Shrek” Herrington to the crease, with his stay not lasting long either getting out to the little 12 year old who also got Luke 'Donkey' Gregory 1st ball. Park are on 47-5. However a great partnership from Manoj and Jurgo (Jurgo’s batting couldn’t be any worse than his keeping) putting on a partnership of 96 before Jurgo fell for 26 in the 32nd over with the score on 143-6. This brought out Dipin and when he was out off the penultimate ball of the 35th over the score had moved to 170-7. This brought out Upendra who on the way out to the wicket seemingly started to abuse the three scorers. Before facing his 1st ball Manoj and Upendra looked to be coming up with a plan... But surely this plan wasn’t to run out the inform batsman on 93? However from the 1st ball he faced a loud for a quick single rang out and what ever the real plan was it failed as Manoj was run out for the joined top score of the day of 93... The “Ageing Athlete” Herro headed out to the crease with a look of determination but was 54 off 5 over really realistic. Some non lusty blows resulting in a few quick singles with the odd 3 chucked in there resulted in Herro looking for the Oxygen. One over left and 19 runs needed was too much as Upendra (10) and then Herro (24) gave their wickets away in consecutive balls trying to hit the required boundaries thus Park’s recent run of wins came to a crashing halt losing by 18 runs.
Jurgo had the duty of giving out the blue stripe and quite respectfully gave it to himself for being tackled by the keeper whilst running and in turn doing a near on full front flip, putting the remaining 10 Park players in to fits of laughter. |
